Thane Pearson
IN LIFE: Thane Pearson was a robust, very vibrant, creative man. He was a wonderful husband, brother, son, businessman, partner and friend. His smile and easy going manner will be missed not just in our office and job sites, but in our lives. IN BUSINESS: Thane made the business of architectural design fun. Coming into his design studio in York Maine was to come into his creative home. With his Newfoundland dogs on the floor, his wife Holly at his side, and his friends at the CAD stations, one always had the sense of entering Thane's private world; a space designed for creative expression and business relationships lived out at the friendship level. Thane's word was his bond. Clients, engineers, builders, tradesmen and business people all found that they could do business on a handshake basis with Thane. He maintained relationships of trust, synergy and creativity that moved projects from dreams and ideas to completed properties of distinction. Thane simply regarded it as an honor to be invited to design someone's home or to synergize his designs with the expertise of fellow business executives and entrepreneurs. AS A RESIDENTIAL DESIGNER: Thane designed and integrated hundreds of homes and getaways into the seacoast area of Maine and New Hampshire as well as in the transcendental lakes and mountains regions of both States. The North Shore of Massachusetts is also dotted with his creative designs. In life, Thane was a man of few words and plain spoken truth. However, at the drafting table, pen in hand, his intuitive visions flowed in a genuine Yankee eloquence. Thane always approached architecture as more than space planning. Thane seasoned his residential designs with the traditional Maine architectural elements he so much respected. From the granite cliffs of the Nubble Point  Lighthouse and Marginal Way;  to the Mt and Lake Views of the Rangeley Lakes region; from urbane Portsmouth to the historic New Hampshire and Massachusetts coast lines; he planted his designs into the New England landscapes and environments. Thane designed spaces that promoted the gathering of family in homes that have been passed on from generation to generation. Inside the front doors of these very private retreats, he eschewed the grandiose for what instead feels more private, intimate and connected. In his designs he created focal points to support the impromptu gathering and family conversation. Intrinsic to his designs are appointments that elevate the family experience and connect that experience to the natural environments surrounding the home. Thane's timeless and durable designs continue to appreciate in value, and are cherished by their owners. His legacy of homes and businesses endure as intimate and empowering spaces for all who live and work in them. A LIFE OF CONNECTEDNESS:  Thane was on the national board of directors for the American Institute of Building Design,(AIBD), and was the President of the Northeast Society chapter.  AIBD is dedicated to the advancement of the profession of residential design. Thane, working with AIBD, always sought to educate the public on the many facets involved in successfully building a well-designed and functional home. He worked tirelessly with his fellow architects and designers to advance the practices and technologies of residential design. Thane valued his business contacts in AIBD not simply as thought-leaders and peers, but as cherished friends. To honor his life time commitment to residential architecture the Northeast Chapter of AIBD has created an architectural design scholarship at Wentworth Institute of Technology, Thanes'  alma mater. AS AN ORGANIZATION: Thane Pearson Design was Thane's architectural, engineering and business expression for more than 20 years. "TPD" was his brain child. Thane influenced his world from his drafting table. He devoted his life to envisioning the possibilities first, and then designing safe and nurturing residences and commercial properties. These creative efforts continue to be properties of distinction throughout Northern New England. He continued to remain current in his field and to push the envelope of residential design even as he designed to a philosophy that: "Traditional Design was timeless." THE SPIRIT OF THIS COMPANY: Thane's way of being and doing business remains the organic foundation of PTD. "Thane's Way" remains as the timeless Spirit of this company. THE FUTURE: We will continue to miss our friend and colleague for a lifetime, but we aspire to continue his life's work and to advance his vision for the Northern New England Coastal and Lakes region. Even as we renew, reenergize and bring in new creative talent and leadership, we remain committed to doing business the Thane Pearson way. We continue a passion for traditional design realized one relationship at a time. The Journey continues...
